Namibia to train in Tunisia ahead of Africa Nations Championships

Xinhua,December 20, 2017 Adjust font size:

WINDHOEK, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- Namibia football coach Ricardo Mannetti has named a 31-man training squad in preparation for their maiden apperance in the 2018 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) finals slated for January next year in Morocco.

Mannetti said the Namibian squad started training on Tuesday up until Friday at the Namibia Football Associations Technical Centre in Windhoek.

The team will resume training on Dec. 26 before the squad is trimmed to about 28 players who will travel to Tunisia for a two-week training camp, said Mannetti.

"Roughly two weeks in Tunisia, we will play about three matches. There will be about four teams training in Tunisia during that period and we will definitely play a West African side to prepare for Ivory Coast and then we can play anyone. We will be announcing the final 23 men squad from Tunisia and are expected in Marrakech by Jan. 11," he said.

Namibia's captain Ronald Ketjijere will lead the team in Group B and their first hurdle is against Cote d'Ivoire on Jan. 14, followed by Uganda on Jan. 18 in Marrakech and Zambia in Casablanca in the final group game on Jan. 22.

Top two teams from each group will advance to the quarterfinals. Enditem
