Profile: Gambian President Adama Barrow

BEIJING, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- At the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, Gambian President Adama Barrow is scheduled to embark on a week-long state visit to China on Wednesday.

The following is a brief introduction of the Gambian president:

Born in 1965, Barrow had been a real estate developer before becoming a politician.

He joined the United Democratic Party (UDP) in Gambia in 1996 and has served as the party's deputy treasurer, a regional coordinator and its treasurer.

He was elected the president of Gambia in December 2016 and took office in February 2017.

The visit is Barrow's first state visit to China. Enditem
