LUSAKA, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- The following are news highlights in Zambia's major media outlets on Tuesday.

-- Zambia is among sub-Saharan African countries expected to benefit from the 100-million-U.S.-dollar fund approved by the African Development Bank (AfDB) to reduce the huge infrastructure financing gap.

The AfDB has provided the fund to the Emerging Africa Infrastructure Fund, a public-private partnership company, to help improve infrastructure growth in Africa, with 49 countries expected to be benefited. (Zambia Daily Mail)

-- Zambia's largest trade union has urged the government to extend the verification of qualifications being conducted in the teaching profession to all sectors.

Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) Vice-President Manson Mutambo said there was need for the government to be strict on verification of qualifications presented by workers in all sectors after a verification exercise in the teaching profession revealed that over 700 teachers had fake qualifications. -- The Zambian government said measures put in place to increase fish production have started bearing fruits with the country's fish deficit narrowing.

Minister of Livestock and Fisheries Michael Katambo said the country's fish deficit has reduced from 85,000 tonnes to 60,000 tonnes due to execution of aquaculture projects. (Daily Nation)

-- A Zambian international soccer player has made the shortlist for the Confederation of African Football (CAF) young player of the year award.
