NAIROBI, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- The following are the news highlights in Kenya's major media outlets on Tuesday.

-- Kenya's attorney-general has warned opposition National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga that he faces death penalty should he be sworn in as "people's president," and at the same time chided top lawyers in NASA for misleading the former prime minister to take an "illegal" oath.

Odinga repeated on Sunday that he would be sworn-in as the people's president soon despite threats from government. Odinga said he will not be intimidated by President Uhuru Kenyatta's warning against anyone threatening the country's peace and stability, even if it meant facing "death." (Daily Nation)

-- A fresh battle looms between teachers and the government over plans to hire 18,000 interns in public schools. The Ministry of Education has proposed the hiring of intern teachers early next year when free secondary education will be rolled out. (The Standard)
