MAIMANA, Afghanistan, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- At least six militants were killed as security force aircraft pounded Taliban positions in Shirin Tagab district of northern Afghanistan's Faryab province on Tuesday, an army spokesman Nasratullah Jamshidi said.

"Acting upon intelligence report, the aircraft target a hideout of Taliban group in Torgul village of Shirin Tagab district early today morning killing six rebels on the spot and destroyed all their arms and ammunitions inside the hiding place," Jamshidi told Xinhua.

Taliban militants haven't commented.

Parts of Shirin Tagab district has been the scene of heavy fighting over the past few days and 13 people including eight militants and five security personnel were reportedly killed there on Monday. Enditem
