JALALABAD, Afghanistan, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- At least four militants loyal to the Islamic State (IS) were killed and five others injured as government forces attacked militants' positions in parts of Khogiani district in eastern Afghanistan's Nangarhar province over the past 24 hours, said a statement of the provincial government released here on Tuesday.

Security forces, backed by aircraft, started attacking IS insurgents in parts of Khogiani district since Monday morning with the objective to evict the hardliner group from the area, the statement added.

IS militants are yet to make comment.

The operations launched in Khogiani and adjoining areas early this month have been continuing. Enditem
