LUSAKA, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- The following are news highlights in Zambia's major media outlets on Monday.

-- The Zambian government has reduced land lease to foreigners to 25 years from the previous 99 years.

Minister of Lands and Natural Resources Jean Kapata said this was one of the highlights in the revised land policy which will become operational next year and that the government has listened to the complaints of Zambians over foreigners' owning land for many years. (Times of Zambia)

-- Zambia's ruling party has challenged the country's leading opposition leader to recognize President Edgar Lungu as winner of last year's controversial election or forget about dialogue.

Patriotic Front (PF) Secretary-General Daviess Mwila said recognition of Lungu, which Hakainde Hichilema has refused to do, was nonnegotiable for the Commonwealth-initiated dialogue to take place. (The Mast)

-- The head of the Zambia Police has warned officers against unethical conduct that leads to arbitrary arrests, over-detentions and abuse of the power vested in them.
