John Higgins crushes Ronnie O'Sullivan to reach semis at Scottish Open

Xinhua,December 16, 2017 Adjust font size:

LONDON, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) -- John Higgins crushed Ronnie O'Sullivan 5-0 in the quarterfinals of the Scottish Open at Glasgow on Friday.

It was the first time since the 1994 Grand Prix that "The Rocket" had failed to take a frame against Higgins in a ranking event.

Higgins will next face Neil Robertson, who beat China's Xiao Guodong 5-4 after an enthralling and high quality clash.

The Australian former world No. 1 can secure an immediate return to the world' s top 16 if he were to lift the title this week. He dropped down to 20th in the rankings after an agonising 6-5 defeat against Mark Joyce at last week's UK Championship.

Judd Trump surged past home favourite Stephen Maguire 5-2 and book his spot in the last four. He will play either Ricky Walden or Chinese player Cao Yupeng in the other semifinal on Saturday. Enditem
