Swedish FM: No military solution to Korean Peninsula nuclear crisis

Xinhua,December 16, 2017 Adjust font size:

UNITED NATIONS, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) -- Swedish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Margot Elisabeth Wallstrom said Friday that there is "no military solution" to the Korean Peninsula nuclear crisis.

Speaking to reporters before attending the Security Council's ministerial-level meeting on "non-proliferation/DPRK," Wallstrom said that "we need to intensify diplomatic efforts, as well as to establish a dialogue," adding that "we need to resort to every venue of diplomacy and politics to establish a dialogue again. We will remain actively in these efforts."

Members had also been asked to consider ways to maximize pressure on Pyongyang, including through full implementation of relevant council resolutions and additional sanctions measures "in response to further provocations." Enditem
