Turkey's unemployment rate falls to 10.6 pct in September

ANKARA, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) -- The unemployment rate in Turkey fell 0.7 percent to 10.6 percent in September compared to the same month last year, the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) announced Friday.

The number of unemployed people, aged 15 and above, deceased in September by 104,000 to 3.4 million on a year-on year basis, according to the statement.

The employment rate increased by 1.1 percent to 47.9 percent compared with the same period of 2016, the statement said, adding that 53.1 percent of the employee work in service sector.

The number of women participating in the workforce climbed 1 percent from the previous year to 34.5 percent.

The unemployment fall came after Turkey's gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 11.1 percent in the third quarter this year, hitting the highest quarterly growth since the first quarter of 2011. Enditem
