Tokyo stocks retreat in morning as firm yen dents sentiment

Xinhua,December 15, 2017 Adjust font size:

TOKYO, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks retreated Friday morning as the yen's appreciation against the U.S. dollar hurt investor sentiment and dragged down exporter issues.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 199.69 points, or 0.88 percent, from Thursday to 22,494.76.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 19.68 points, or 1.09 percent, to 1,788.46.

The majority of industry categories on the main section lost ground, with information and communication, marine transportation and transportation equipment-linked issues comprising those that declined the most by the morning break. Enditem
