NEW DELHI, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- India's prominent Bollywood actor and director Neeraj Vora died at a hospital in Mumbai on Thursday at the age of 54.

Vora had been in coma for the past year following a stroke and was under treatment at a film producer's home, which converted one of the rooms as a make-shift intensive care unit for him.

The actor-director was rushed to the Mumbai hospital Wednesday night after his condition worsened and he passed away this morning, family sources told the media.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed sadness on the demise of Vora.

"An energetic and creative personality, he will be remembered for his films and warm nature. My thoughts are with his family and admirers in this sad hour," he tweeted.

Vora, who started working in 1980s, shot to fame for popular Bollywood films like Satya, Phir Hera Pheri and Daud. His last film as an actor was Welcome Back in 2015. Enditem
