JALALABAD, Afghanistan, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- At least three militants of Islamic State (IS) terrorist group were killed and seven others wounded during an operation in Afghanistan's eastern Nangarhar province, authorities said Thursday.

"A joint Afghan security forces' operation is successfully ongoing in Khogyani district against IS militants. Within the past 24 hours, three IS militants were killed and seven others wounded by the ground forces there," the provincial government said in a statement.

One IS militant was arrested and several kidnapped villages were freed, the statement read, adding that six rounds of landmines were defused and one telecommunication radio was also seized.

Laying in southwestern of provincial capital of Jalalabad city, the district has been the scene of heavy clashes between IS fighters and security forces within the past couple of weeks.

The clashes have forced hundreds of villagers to flee in the mountainous district.

The IS group which emerged in Nangarhar in early 2015, has yet to make comments on the report. Enditem
