Los Angeles police probe new accusation against director Polanski

Xinhua,December 14, 2017 Adjust font size:

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- Police in U.S. western city of Los Angeles said on Wednesday they were investigating new allegations against famous director Roman Polanski of his sexual molestation to a 10-year-old girl in 1975.

According to a report by the Variety, the 84-year-old director could not be prosecuted for these accused misconducts since the statute of limitations has passed.

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), however, continued to investigate such alleged crimes because the evidence that could be uncovered in this case may affect other cases that can be prosecuted.

Artist Marianne Barnard alleged that Polanski molested her during a 1975 photo shoot, tweeting on Oct. 13 that he "took photos of me naked & in fur coat on beach in Malibu, I was 10 yrs old. He went on from there. This ends now."

It is the latest allegation of sexual assault against Polanski. Before Bernard, at least five other women made similar accusations, including a 59-year-old woman Robin in last October.

Robin accused Polanski of sexual assault her in 1973, but did not provided any details publicly so far.

These two new allegations emerged 40 years after Polanski pleaded guilty in 1977 to unlawful sexual intercourse with 13-year-old Samantha Geimer. The famous director fled the country to Paris before he was to be formally sentenced.

Polanski is the French-Polish writer and director of many famous movies, including Rosemary's Baby, Chinatown and Pianist. Pianist won Oscar in 2003. However, Polanski never got the award for fear of being arrested after stepping onto U.S. territory. Enditem
