Former Zambian football star in Uganda to help select national coach

KAMPALA, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) - Former Zambian football star Kalusha Bwalya is in Uganda to help the East African country select a new national coach.

Bwalya who is also the head of the Confederation of African Football technical committee was selected to be head of the Uganda FA technical panel to search for a new national coach.

"I am here as part of the technical team to give guidance on the new Uganda Cranes coach. The selection of the new coach will help Uganda prepare well for the next international engagements," Bwalya said.

Uganda is in search of a new coach ahead of the 2018 Africa Nations Championship in Morocco.

Three months ago, Serbian born tactician Milutin Sredojevic terminated his contract with Uganda after delayed payments of salary of about 54,000 U.S. dollars.

The Uganda FA picked Ugandan born Moses Basena as interim coach.

Moses Magogo, the Uganda FA President said Bwalya is in Uganda to help play a role in providing knowledge on the applicants for the job.

Magogo said the onus to name the next Uganda Cranes coach lays in the hands of the FA.

He said unlike before, government has shown great signs to support with payment of salary for our next coach.

In the past, the FA has been meeting all expenses of the coaches and technical staff together with the national team.

Over 90 applicants are interested in the job including well traveled Claude Le Roy, Belgian Lucy Eymael, Portuguese born Joao Miguel De Castro Ferreira, former Uganda Cranes coach Bobby Williamson, former Rwanda head coach Johnny McKinstry.

The local coaches who applied include the current interim coach Basena, Jackson Mayanja and Sam Timbe. Enditem
