BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed higher Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.98 percent, at 3,322.2.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.9 percent higher at 11,143.26. The ChiNext Index, which tracks China's NASDAQ-style enterprises, gained 1.38 percent to close at 1,816.98.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed up 325.44 points, or 1.14 percent, to 28,965.29 points on Monday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 28,645.41 and 28,998.51. Turnover totaled 109.20 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 13.99 billion U.S. dollars).

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Monday with blue chips in particularly attracting buying as investors here were emboldened by stronger-than-expected U.S. jobs data sending U.S. shares higher late last week.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 127.65 points, or 0.56 percent, from Friday to end the day at 22,938.73, marking its highest close since January 1992.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks closed higher on Monday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) closed up 1.05 percent, or 35.81 points, to close at 3,460.45.

A total of 1.53 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 999.1 million Singapore dollars (about 739.58 million U.S. dollars). Gainers outnumbered losers by 254 to 183.

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed higher. Equity benchmarks remained positive, with the Sensex rising more than 100 points, backed by ITC, PSU banks, auto and HDFC Group stocks. However, the upside was capped by Reliance Industries, ICICI Bank and Infosys.

The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex closed at 33,455.79, 205.49 points or 0.62 percent up compared to its previous close at 33,250.30.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended mixed here on Monday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,719.47 down 1.78 points or 0.10 percent, but the Emas was at 12,356.40 up 11.00 points or 0.09 percent.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX-Index, closed at 111.78 points on Monday, down 2.03 points or 1.78 percent against the previous trading session.

Over 73.452 million shares worth some 921.325 billion Vietnamese dong (some 41 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Monday, an increase of 67.2 percent in volume and 54.1 percent in value against the previous trading session.

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in south Vietnam, closed at 917.45 points on Monday, down 22.71 points, or 2.42 percent, against the last Friday's closing session.

VN30-Index, the new benchmark index for the southern bourse, which tracks the 30 leading stocks by both market capitalization and liquidity, closed at 908.29 points, down 21.96 points or 2.36 percent.

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 0.65 percent higher on Monday.

The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index increased by 53.87 points to 8,358.57. The all-share index went up by 26.59 points, or 0.55 percent, to 4,885.45.

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended higher Monday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) gained 7.49 points, or 0.3 percent, to settle at 2,471.49. Trading volume stood at 237.57 million shares worth 4.54 trillion won (4.2 billion U.S. dollars).

SYDNEY -- The Australian share market ended the day marginally higher on Monday, despite a strong start to morning trade.

At the close of action, the benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index was up 3.90 points or 0.07 percent at 5,998.30, while the broader All Ordinaries index added 4.50 points or 0.07 percent at 6,081.90.
