BEIJING -- Chinese President Xi Jinping and his Algerian counterpart Abdelaziz Bouteflika exchanged congratulatory messages on the successful launch of Alcomsat-1 in the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in China's southwestern province of Sichuan early Monday.

In his message, Xi pointed out that the project of Alcomsat-1, Algeria's first communications satellite, is an important manifestation of the China-Algeria comprehensive strategic partnership, which starts a precedent in aerospace cooperation between China and Arab countries and will play an important role in promoting Algeria's economic development, improvement of its people's livelihood and social progress. CAIRO -- Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi invited his Palestinian counterpart Mahmoud Abbas for talks in Cairo on Monday over the issue of Jerusalem, the Egyptian presidential spokesman said in a statement on Sunday.

"The talks will address the development related to the U.S. recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital and the ways to deal with the crisis in a manner that preserves the rights of the Palestinian people, their national sanctities and their legitimate right to establish their own independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital," said Bassam Rady in the statement. SANAA -- At least 20 Houthi rebels were killed on Sunday when Saudi-led coalition warplanes hit a missile depot in the Yemeni northwestern province of Hajjah, a Houthi security official told Xinhua.

"Nearly 20 fighters were killed and some others wounded in the targeted site," the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The depot exploded and caught fire after being hit by more than 10 airstrikes, the official said, without giving further details. (Yemen-Saudi-Airstrikes)

LONDON -- Brexit Secretary David Davis said Sunday the odds of Britain exiting the European Union without a deal had dropped dramatically following an agreement both sides reached in Brussels on Friday.

In a Sunday media interview Davis said the deal struck by Prime Minister Theresa May on Friday was a statement of intent and not legally enforceable. It's aim, he said, was to move to the next phase of negotiations with EU negotiators. (Britain-Brexit-EU) Enditem
