KHARTOUM, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- Hundreds of Sudanese on Friday protested in the capital Khartoum against U.S. President Donald Trump's decision of recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
The protesters, gathering from mosques in Khartoum following Friday prayers, raised banners condemning the U.S. and Israel.
Addressing protesters in front of Khartoum's Grand Mosque, Sudanese Presidential Assistant Ibrahim Al-Sanousi voiced rejection to the U.S. move.
"We, as government, Islamic movement and government of national accord, are against normalization with Israel. We will mute all the tongues calling for normalization with Israel, and this will never happen as long as we are alive in this world," he said.
Earlier, the U.S. embassy in Khartoum asked its nationals to be cautious of potential protests in Sudan against the decision by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding Jerusalem.
"The recent announcement that the United States recognizes Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and plans to relocate the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem may spark protests, some of which have the potential to become violent," the U.S. embassy said on its website.
"U.S. embassy in Khartoum reminds U.S. citizens of the need for caution and awareness of personal security," it noted.
It advised the U.S. nationals to review personal security plans, remain aware of their surroundings, including local events, and monitor local news for updates.
It also asked them to avoid areas of demonstrations, and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests or demonstrations.
Trump on Wednesday formally recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and instructed the State Department to begin the procedure of moving the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem.
Sudan rejected on Wednesday night the U.S. decision of recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
"Sudan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses Sudan's complete rejection to the decision by U.S. President Donald Trump to recognize Al-Quds (Jerusalem) as the capital of Israel together with the U.S. plan to move its embassy to Al-Quds," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
It described the decision as "a flagrant violation of the decision of international legitimacy and of the rights of the Palestinian people." Enditem
