Algerians march in protest of Trump's Jerusalem decision

Xinhua,December 09, 2017 Adjust font size:

ALGIERS, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- Thousands of Algerians across the country marched on Friday to protest U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

All the marches started from mosques, just after the midday prayers.

But protesters were prevented from marching in the capital Algiers due to a government ban dating back to 2010, which says such events would disturb public order.

Hundreds of people challenging the authorities, therefore, clashed with the police in several neighborhoods, including the southern suburb of Algiers, local media reported.

Protesters also marched in different other provinces of Algeria, while no incident or clashes with police were reported.

On Thursday, some news websites posted pictures showing angry lawmakers protesting outside the U.S. Embassy in Algiers with signs and placards reading "Jerusalem, capital of Palestine." Enditem
