French shares gain 0.28 pct Friday

PARIS, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- French shares edged up on Friday, with the benchmark Paris CAC 40 up 0.28 percent, or 15.23 points, to close at 5,399.09 points.

A total of 23 of the 40 selected large companies gained in the day.

Credit Agricole, a French network of cooperative and mutual banks advanced 3.86 percent, the top gainer of the blue chips. BNP Paribas, French banking giant, rose 3.01 percent, followed by Societe Generale which gained 2.25 percent.

French multinational automobile manufacturer Peugeot went down by 1.31 percent, the top loser of the blue chips. French multinational integrated oil and gas company Total lost 0.92 percent. French multinational electric utility company Engie S.A. edged down 0.67 percent. Enditem
