Cyprus disappointed by results of Erdogan's visit to Greece: Greek FM

NICOSIA, Dec 7 (Xinhua) -- Cyprus was disappointed by the results of the visit by Turk President Tayyip Erdogan to Greece, Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides said on Thursday.

"From what I learned, the visit did not produce anything new for Cyprus," Kasoulides told Antenna television station at the end of the official part of Erdogan's visit.

But Kasoulides said that Cyprus wants to restart negotiations to end its 43-year long partition as soon as presidential elections are over early 2018 despite the disappointing results of Erdogan's visit.

"Having a vacuum without any negotiations would be a dangerous situation," Kasoulides said.

Erdogan's visit was designed to improve Greece-Turkey relations and the prospects of a solution putting an end to the Cyprus problem.

Kasoulides said that any agreement on Cyprus has to come out of negotiations.

"In any way, it is much better to have negotiations without any results than having no negotiations at all," Kasoulides said.

The latest round of negotiations on Cyprus collapsed in July amid trading of accusations between the two sides. Enditem
