Egypt's president says Jerusalem issue should be tackled carefully

CAIRO, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi stressed on Wednesday the importance of dealing with the Jerusalem issue carefully.
In a press statement, the Egyptian presidency said that Sisi and his acting prime minster discussed the decision expected to be taken by the U.S. administration to relocate its embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
Sisi underscored the importance of dealing carefully with this issue, particularly in line with Jerusalem's legal, religious and historic status for Arab and Muslim world.
Tensions have been mounting as U.S. President Donald Trump reportedly intends to move the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and declare Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
The Palestinians have strongly condemned and rejected Trump's decision, and called for days of rage all over the Palestinian territories against Trump's plan.
Last month, the U.S. government shut down the office of the Palestine Liberation Organization in Washington, a step that the Palestinians called "punitive." Enditem
