Frankfurt, Wolfsburg secure victories in German Bundesliga (updated)

Xinhua,December 04, 2017 Adjust font size:

BERLIN, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- Eintracht Frankfurt came from behind to beat Hertha Berlin 2-1 on the winner from Kevin Prince Boateng, while Wolfsburg eased 3-0 past Borussia Monchengladbach to close the 14th round of Bundesliga action on Sunday.

Hertha Berlin's opener through Davie Selke wasn't enough as Frankfurt rallied back by courtesy on goals from Marius Wolf and former Berlin player Kevin Prince Boateng.

Vedad Ibisevic had the chance to break the deadlock early in the game but the striker was unable to capitalize on a moment of madness from Mijat Gacinovic, whose misplaced pass handed the hosts a golden opportunity.

However, the hosts gained momentum and opened the scoring 15 minutes into the encounter when Davie Selke nutmegged Frankfurt goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky to give Berlin the 1-0 lead.

Hertha's opener was a wakening call for the visitors from Frankfurt as Marius Wolf shocked the hosts with the equalizer after drilling a square pass into the roof of the net at 26 minutes played.

After the restart, both sides lacked in rhythm and were unable to produce scoring opportunities, meaning that clear-cut chances were a rare occurrence in the second half.

Things changed in the closing period when former Hertha Berlin player Kevin Prince Boateng wrapped up the victory after providing the winner with a curl into the top left corner with ten minutes remaining in the game.

With the result, Eintracht Frankfurt climbed to 8th place and is now equal on points with sixth placed Dortmund. Hertha slumped to the 12th place after recording the fifth loss of the season.

Elsewhere, Wolfsburg snapped Borussia Monchengladbach's two-game winning run after cruising to a 3-0 victory in front of a home crowd.

The Foals lacked in penetration and failed to prove a threat to the relentless Wolves, who staged a faultless performance over ninety minutes.

Yunus Malli smoothed the way for the win with his opener in the 4th minute. Daniel Didavi doubled the lead in the 25th minute before Joshua Guilavogui sealed the deal in the 71st.

With the victory, Wolfsburg jumped to 11th position, while Monchengladbach remain in 4th place. Enditem
