BERLIN -- At least four people were killed and about 20 others were reportedly injured in a residential building inferno on Sunday in the western German city of Saarbruecken, according to local police.

One person was seriously injured after jumping from the roof of the building to escape the fire, which broke out in the first or second floor at around 1:30 p.m. local time (1230 GMT), news agency DPA reported, citing a police spokesman as saying. (Germany-Fire-Death)

BUENOS AIRES -- Argentina's Navy on Sunday said a search vessel had potentially made "metallic contact" with a submarine that sank 18 days ago in the south Atlantic with a 44-member crew on board.

"We are investigating a new contact," Navy spokesman Enrique Balbi told reporters, adding a search vessel was moved earlier in the day to a new location 950 meters deep and "its metallic contact was corroborated by two ships with different sensors." (Argentina-Submarine-Missing)

WASHINGTON -- The United States has decided to end its participation in the UN process to develop a Global Compact on Migration which it claimed could undermine its "sovereign right," according to a statement by the State Department on Sunday.

The United States cannot "support a process that could undermine the sovereign right of the United States to enforce our immigration laws and secure our borders," said State Secretary Rex Tillerson in the statement. (US-UN-Migration Compact)

DAMASCUS -- The Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) announced Sunday the liberation of the eastern countryside of Deir al-Zour province in eastern Syria from the Islamic State.

In a statement, the YPG said its forces had liberated the area in east of the Euphrates River with the support of the U.S.-led anti-terror coalition and Russian forces. (Syria-IS-Kurdish)

SANAA -- A fire ripped through the Iranian embassy in the Yemeni capital Sanaa on Sunday during clashes between the Houthis and loyalists of former President Ali Abdullah Saleh, a Xinhua reporter on the scene witnessed.
