Carjacker of state lottery van killed in U.S. California state

Xinhua,December 02, 2017 Adjust font size:

SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- A man who carjacked a California state lottery van was shot and killed in San Francisco, western California, on Friday after police chased and shot at him, local TV reports said.

Police spokesman Michael Andraychak said police responded to a report earlier in the day that a minivan belonging to the state lottery was robbed and carjacked.

The woman who was driving the white lottery vehicle was assaulted and suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Police fired at least one shot at the suspect, who died at a hospital, and detained four others in a golden SUV that was traveling with the stolen van.

Police officers first stopped the SUV and controlled the four men believed to be involved in the carjacking, but the lottery van continued its way, which triggered a police chase and shooting.

"The suspect exited the vehicle, (and) an officer-involved shooting occurred," said Andraychak, without specifying whether the robber was armed or not.

"Crime scene investigators are still going over the crime scene, photographing and collecting evidence. The officers involved have yet to be interviewed," he added.

No other police officers were injured, and it was not clear what was contained inside the lottery van. Enditem
