ISTANBUL, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- Turkish police on Friday detained 62 foreigners for suspected links to the Islamic State (IS) in Istanbul, state-run Anadolu Agency reported.

Police acted in eight districts over tip that the suspects were plotting a terrorist attack, seizing documents and digital materials in the operations, said the report.

Turkey has tightened operations against IS militants in recent months, as the militant group is being routed in neighboring Iraq and Syria.

More than 300 people have been killed in Turkey in IS-related terror attacks in recent years, according to Anadolu. Enditem
