Zambia records slight decrease in crime levels in 2017: police

Xinhua,November 30, 2017 Adjust font size:

LUSAKA, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- Zambia managed to reduce incidences of crime in the first three quarters of the year, the police said on Wednesday.

Kakoma Kanganja, the Inspector-General of the Zambia Police said incidences of crime reduced from 44,771 cases recorded during the same period last year to 44,555, representing a reduction by 216 or 0.48 percent.

The police chief attributed this to continued support from members of the public as the police could not prevent crime on their own.

"For us to sustain this status quo there is need for continued collaboration between the police and the general public as it is not disputable that crime affects everyone irrespective of status in society," the police chief said in his end of year message.

He urged members of the public to be vigilant as the country approaches the festive season.

The police, he said, have put in place stringent and adequate security measures to ensure that people celebrate their festivities in a more favorable and crime free environment. Enditem
