NEW YORK, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- Digital transactions totaled a record 6.59 billion U.S. dollars on Monday, the largest online shopping day in the U.S. history, according to Adobe Analytics data released Tuesday.
The figure registered a 16.8 percent increase compared to Cyber Monday last year, said Adobe.
Top selling items on Cyber Monday included the Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4/4 Pro, Hatchimals & Colleggtibles figurines, PJ Masks, Apple AirPods, streaming devices like Google Chromecast and Roku, and Super Mario Odyssey, the video game, the firm said.
Mobile also set a new record with its first 2-billion-dollar day, as Adobe found out. It said smartphones have become the de facto device for mobile shopping, accounting for 37.6 percent of retail visits and 21.3 percent of revenue.
Taylor Schreiner, Director of Adobe Digital Insights, said the past Cyber Monday behavior of shopping on work computer during the day is almost completely reversed as mobile shopping was dominant both in the morning and afternoon.
"Consumers take smartphones everywhere including work and have a broad range of screen size options that make mobile shopping convenient and easy. With home virtual assistants and entertainment streaming devices selling fast this holiday season, it looks like home will continue to be at the center of peoples' digital lives," said Schreiner.
Adobe measures 80 percent of online transactions from 100 major U.S. retailers.
The holiday season has seen strong revenue growth on the whole. From Nov. 1 through Nov. 27, 50 billion dollars has been spent online thus far, the firm said.
The past weekend was also the best-ever holiday shopping weekend for Amazon devices, as millions of them were sold between Thanksgiving and Cyber Monday, said Amazon Tuesday.
Echo Dot and Amazon Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote were not only the best-selling Amazon devices, but they were the best-selling products from any manufacturer in any category across all of Amazon.com, the company said. Enditem
