BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.34 percent, at 3,333.66 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.25 percent higher at 11,091.14 points. The ChiNext Index, which tracks China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 1.87 percent to close at 1,793.87 points.

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index Tuesday moved up 10.85 points, or 0.64 percent to close at 1,706.52 points.

Some 8.12 billion shares worth 49.06 billion baht (about 1.51 billion U.S. dollars) changed hands.

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed lower on Tuesday as equity benchmarks continued to consolidate ahead of expiry of November derivative contracts on Thursday.

The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex closed at 33,618.59, 105.85 points or 0.31 percent down compared to its previous close at 33,724.44.

TOKYO -- Tokyo shares closed nearly flat Tuesday amid renewed geopolitical concerns following media reports about possible missile launch of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended down 9.75 points, or 0.04 percent, from Monday at 22,486.24.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks closed higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) rising 0.17 percent or 5.99 points to close at 3442.35.

A total of 2 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 1.2 billion Singapore dollars (about 890.82 million U.S. dollars). Losers outnumbered gainers by 263 to 169.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended lower here on Tuesday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,714.42 down 5.44 points or 0.32 percent, and the Emas was at 12,363.90 down 43.62 points or 0.35 percent.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed down 5.34 points or 0.02 percent to 29,680.85 points on Tuesday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 29,334.59 and 29,687.45. Turnover totaled 118.90 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 15.24 billion U.S. dollars).

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in south Vietnam, closed at 941.21 points on Tuesday, up 2.6 points, or 0.28 percent against the previous trading days closing session.

About 359.519 million shares worth 8.848 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND) (394.5 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the southern HCM City Stock Exchange. Prices of 128 stocks went up, 148 stocks fell down, while 54 stocks remained unchanged.

VIENTIANE -- The Lao stock market closed on Tuesday up 0.53 percent compared to the previous trading day.
