Tunisia asks Poland to further review travel restrictions

TUNIS, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- Tunisia had asked Poland to further revise the travel restrictions on its tourists, Tunisian Minister of Foreign Affairs Khemais Jhinaoui said Monday.

"Following the remarkable improvement of security situation in Tunisia, in addition to the major steps taken in this area, several countries have now lifted all restrictions of travel on our country," Jhinaoui said at a joint press point with his Polish counterpart Witold Waszczykowski in Tunisia.

"Poland will have to recover its position on the Tunisian tourist market, especially since the number of Polish tourists has significantly plummeted from 216,000 in 2010 to 16,000 in 2017," the top Tunisian diplomat added.

During the preparation of a joint Tunisian-Polish commission, the two ministers expressed the hope that bilateral cooperation between Tunisia and Poland will rise to an higher level in sectors such as education, culture and integration of young people into the economy.

The Libyan issue was also on the agenda of a series of talks between Waszczykowski and senior Tunisian officials including Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi.

The Tunisian president discussed with his Polish guest the tools that could promote coordination between the two countries in various economic issues, as well as trying to find a consensual and peaceful political solution to the Libyan conflict, the fight against terrorism and the illegal emigration.
