China's top political advisor stresses national solidarity

China's top political advisor Yu Zhengsheng Wednesday met with a delegation from ethnic minority groups in Beijing, urging them to contribute to boosting national unity and prosperity.

Yu, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, applauded the tradition of ethnic minority delegations visiting inland areas of the motherland.

The visits allow people from ethic minority groups to better understand the fundamental realitites of the country, said Yu, adding the visits also help enhance their national and cultural identity and their endorsement of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and socialism with Chinese characteristics.

Yu called on members of the delegation to continue leading ethnic minorities to shake off poverty, promote exchanges between different nationalities, safeguard national unity and social stability, and boost prosperity and stability in border areas.

The delegation was made up of 225 outstanding members of ethnic minority groups from across the country who have been recognized for their contributions to national solidarity. They visited Shanghai and Zhejiang before arriving in Beijing.

Sun Chunlan, head of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, also attended the meeting.
