Top legislator emphasizes law enforcement in solid waste control

There should be improved law enforcement on the prevention and control of solid waste pollution, top legislator Zhang Dejiang said during an inspection tour of Hunan Province from Monday to Wednesday.

Zhang, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, headed a team that visited the provincial capital Changsha and the cities of Yiyang and Chenzhou to inspect solid waste management.

During his visit to garbage disposal centers and agricultural and animal husbandry enterprises, Zhang told local authorities to speed up work on garbage classification and management in both urban and rural areas.

Zhang also visited mines and high-tech enterprises, where he spoke of the importance of hazardous waste management, recycling and reuse of solid waste.

Zhang asked local authorities to step up efforts to prevent and control solid waste pollution, and improve the green industry and circular economy.
