China issues 680 safety protection orders after enacting anti-domestic violence law

Xinhua, March 9, 2017 Adjust font size:

China has issued more than 680 personal safety protection orders since its anti-domestic violence law was enacted, the Supreme People's Court (SPC) said Wednesday.

China's anti-domestic violence law took effect on March 1, 2016.

An official with a civil court of the SPC said the personal safety protection orders can effectively prevent domestic violence and safeguard the personal safety and dignity of women, children, senior citizens, people with physical challenges and others who suffer domestic violence.

This judicial measure shows that the state opposes domestic violence in all forms and safeguards equal, harmonious and civilized family relations, the official said.

Applicants for personal safety protection orders included family members and cohabiting partners, women and men, as well as senior citizens, children and people with disabilities.
