A press conference of the 2016 Eco Forum Global Annual Conference kicked off in Guiyang, the capital of southwest China's Guizhou Province, on June 27, in a bid to promote global ecological progress while exploring the green development of the economy.

Centered on the theme of "Green Development and Unity of Knowledge & Action," the forum will be held from July 8 to 10 in Guiyang. A variety of events will be organized, including three summits and 37 seminars covering a wide array of topics such as environmental protection, resources conservation, natural restoration and eco-civilization.

"Roughly 1,200 people are confirmed to attend the forum, among which 400 are officials, entrepreneurs and experts from overseas. This will help enhance the event's international profile and ensure that a diversity of voices will be heard," explained Li Zuoxun, Deputy-Director of the Guizhou Provincial Development and Reform Commission.

According to Li, the forum will serve as an essential platform to strengthen global cooperation in all possible areas by sharing green growth knowledge. It will also demonstrate China's determination and efforts to build a more eco-friendly environment and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.

Alex Zhang, Executive Director of the Eco Forum Global, said that the "Green Expo" will highlight the forum as was designated to introduce a number of new ideas concerning green development and provide practical advice for green communities.

"People might also spotlight the herbal medicine made from localized plants," pointed out Ding Xiongjun, Deputy Secretary-General of the People's Government of Guizhou Province.

"In late May, the Big Data Expo 2016, the only exhibition in the world centered on big data was also held in Guiyang, and inspired the local government to connect big data with healthcare, as it is expected to transform approaches in healthcare that have long defined the industry."

Guiyang, a city that boasts active ecological practices and a cool climate, has held the annual conference since 2013.
