Beijing to build 30 forest parks around city

china.org.cn / chinagate.cn by Bai Cuili, July 31, 2015 Adjust font size:

A five-year project has been launched to build 30 new forest parks in Beijing suburbs. This emerged from the release of details by the Beijing Bureau of Parks and Woods of planned ecological environment construction in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region in the future. This involves development of the concept of "national parks." The region undertakes trials for a national nature reserve system where the three areas interconnect. At the same time, the region will build a green ecological corridor so as to create a "world-class city ecological system."

According to the basic layout, Beijing will pay more attention to building a green water system running through the whole area, involving more than 30 tributaries and the four main rivers: Yongding, Beiyun, Chaobai and Juma.

According to the plan, in 2020, forest wetlands on the plain area of Beijing will connect with Tianjin, Langfang and Baoding to become a big green area.

Meanwhile, the Beijing Bureau of Parks and Woods will integrate existing nature reserve areas, scenic spots and forest parks to build a national park belt around Beijing. There will be a strong emphasis on green ecological areas based on big forests and wetlands between cities and functional zones.
