New WB VP for E Asia and the Pacific to Visit China

Pamela Cox, the World Bank’s new Vice President for East Asia and the Pacific, will visit China from September 22 to 26.

During her visit, Cox will meet with government officials and project beneficiaries to discuss ways to further strengthen the Bank’s cooperation with China, by supporting greener growth and promote more inclusive development. She will also travel to Anhui Province to visit a number of World Bank-supported projects.

"China’s success in lifting people out of poverty over the last three decades has been remarkable," said Cox. "The World Bank is committed to supporting China as it manages its development challenges - adjusting to a cleaner and greener growth model addressing inequality and providing opportunities for all Chinese."

Prior to being appointed to her current position in January this year, Cox worked as Vice President for the Latin America and the Caribbean Region of the World Bank, playing a leading role in supporting inclusive growth in emerging economies and providing innovative and practical financial and knowledge services to meet developing country needs. In the past, she has also worked as Chief of Country Operations in Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, and Korea.

As Vice President for East Asia and the Pacific, Cox will manage staff working across 22 countries and a US$ 30.2 billion lending portfolio. World Bank lending for the region –both for low- and middle-income countries— in the 2012 financial year is US$ 6.6 billion.
